Friday Feature

After another crazy year of school, my first day of summer break finally began this Friday. (Yay!) I was super duper excited to finally start up a regular blog, now that I had time to focus on it. As soon as I got home Friday, I sat down at my computer, eager and ready to create my beautiful blog. However, I had forgotten about one important step: thinking up a name. You're probably wondering how I managed to forget that step; yeah, me too. For the past few months, I had been so enthusiastic about starting a blog in the summer, and I had planned it all out in my head. But, I somehow missed this one super important part, and now I was stuck right at step one. My mind was at a blank for ideas. After 2 hours of writing down words and trying to find the right combination, one of them finally clicked: The Theory of Things. A very vague and general title for a very general blog. I plan on writing about anything and everything that comes up in my life, providing readers with my thoughts, insights, opinions, and experiences.
I made this blog with a couple of goals in mind, some more specific than others:

  1. To create at least one post per week
  2. To organize my thoughts
  3. To become a better writer
  4. To become a more well-rounded person
  5. To create a more positive mindset
Maybe a couple of those were also reasons I started this blog. Just like every other opportunity in life, I'll just wait and see where this leads me.

While I wanted to keep shaping and adding to my blog all night, I had made plans with a few friends to party! After all, we had finally made it through the school year alive. So, I grabbed my things and headed toward my friend's house, deciding to bring my puppy Sophie along with me, because, well, why not? When I arrived, I saw an unfamiliar but undeniably cute dog already in the yard, with my two friends petting him with huge smiles on their faces. I ran over as fast as I could (not very fast) with my dog, and what followed was one of the purest, most positive 30 minutes of my life. The other dog, who belonged to the next-door neighbors, had come to visit. And his name was Boogie. Adorable. Definitely one of the cutest dogs I have ever seen. (I say that about every dog.) Unfortunately, I was so caught up in the excitement and dog-petting that I completely forgot to take a picture. Eventually, Boogie had to go home, so we went out to the garden and picked fresh strawberries. I accidentally stepped on quite a few, turning the white bottom of my Nikes a bright pink color. (I still need to clean that up!) We ate up our delicious strawberries on the front porch as it began to rain. The weather quickly turned into a thunderstorm with some pretty spectacular lightening, but we still sat under the cover of the porch to watch the light show. During this time, an unlucky me got my first mosquito bite of the summer. Bummer. We went inside and devoured a pizza before sitting down to have the kind of deep conversations that only ever seem to happen late at night. As we were talking, I noticed a basket of yarn, crochet hooks, and knitting needles sitting nearby. Soon enough, all of us had started to knit or crochet during our conversation. I had completely forgotten how much I loved to crochet! It was so calming and peaceful, and I plan on doing it more often. We all started to feel sort of like housewives, but we totally didn't mind in the slightest. When conversation finally died out, we curled up in a mound of blankets to watch Sweeney Todd. This was my first time seeing it, and I found it oddly funny, maybe because it was late and I was slaphappy and high on life. Within the first hour of the movie though, I fell asleep. Overall, it was a very positive start to summer, with the kind of memories that give you a fuzzy warm feeling thinking back to it. There's nothing quite like a day full of dogs, berry picking, storm-watching, and crocheting. Such simple things turned a typical day into a spectacular one. Life's crazy like that, isn't it?

Here's to new beginnings each and every day. To a fantastic summer full of those warm-fuzzy kind of memories. And to a positive and joyful outlook through every second of it, even if some of those days aren't as smooth and happy as this one.
Wishing you the very best summer,
-Em
